The Challenge

The Robert Allen Group contracted Archimedes Services for the development of a mobile web application, for their sales department backoffice operations. The primary goal was to reduce coupling between the Sales, Customer Services, Credit and Sales Administration, thus reducing manual functions and correspondence. In addition, the app was to provide sales with the regional, territory and division data. It was to be deployed on all (smart) mobile phones post 2005.

 

The Solution

 

An existing prototype was available, but provided minimum functionality. Archimedes Services performed a major overhaul of the codebase, refactoring when possible, to streamline working of the application. The application was designed to integrate with Robert Allen Groups' backoffice servers which consisted of the AS/400 platform and IBM DB2 databases. The application web interface was customised to render across a vast array of mobile devices, and adjusted its' content according to the screen size.

 

The Result

 

The Robert Allen Groups' internal IT department was able to convince the management about the usefulness of the application as an automation tool, after a successful demo. The application is currently being further customised based on the feedback from the management.
